Cessna 172M Skyhawk 1974

My Panel (Before and After)
72E’s panel was pretty much a standard “steam guages” panel. I was at the point where my DG was in need of replacement and my AI was acting up. When I read about Aspen’s EFD 1000 Pro and discovered the potential to gain GPS steering (with my Garmin 420 and old Nav-o-matic 300) thru the 1000 Pro, and saw that I would have HSI capability with my NAV1 and GPS1, it was a no-brainer at the price for the 1000 Pro.
My Aspen Experience
Although the original RSM had to be replaced within a month of the install (and I want to point out that Aspen was quick and responsive in rectifying the issue by working remotely with my A&P and IA), the EFD-1000 Pro has been very reliable and met all of my expectations. My instrument scan is tighter; my ability to hold altitude has improved greatly; my workload is lessened through the benefit of GPS steering. And it is pure fun to fly with “glass” !

About Me
I’m an instrument rated private pilot, been flying since 1993. I’m based in Greenwood, SC (KGRD) and, now that I’m retired, I fly 100-120 hrs per year. Most of my flying is in the southeast (GA, Carolinas, Florida), but visits to grandkids take us to Michigan, Upstate New York and Boston. I file IFR on all of these longer trips. I also am a volunteer pilot for Angel Flight (part of the Fly-4-Life group); I fly 1 mission per month for Angel Flight.
