Aspen Avionics Announces Availability of Version 2.0 Software Upgrade for Evolution Flight Displays

Aspen Avionics, Inc. announced today that it has released its Version 2.0 software upgrade kit to its dealers, allowing them to immediately begin upgrading EFD1000 Primary Flight Displays in the field to the new software level. The update is provided to dealers via a field upgrade kit from Aspen that includes a Secure Digital (microSD) card that quickly loads Evolution Flight Displays with new software updates and optional performance packages. The 2.0 software upgrade kit is free from Aspen Avionics, and any authorized Aspen dealer can perform the upgrades.

Aspen Avionics Announces First Helicopter Installation

Aspen Avionics announced today that the Dale County Sheriff’s Office located in Ozark, Alabama, is the first installation of an EFD1000H Pro Primary Flight Display (PFD) and an EFD1000H Multi-Function Display (MFD) into an operational helicopter. The Bell OH-58 helicopter, a military version of the Bell 206, is used by the department in regular airborne law enforcement activities.

First Non-Company Three-display (Trio) Installation in SR22


The first three-display (Trio) installation of an EFD1000 Pro PFD, an EFD1000 MFD and an EFD500 MFD, complete with an EWR50 Weather Receiver, was completed this week.

Sarasota Avionics performed the installation on Aspen Sales Manager Scott Smith’s 2002 Cirrus SR22. This is the first non-company Trio display installation, and it went smoothly. Scott will fly the Cirrus back to his home in Kansas, and then start flying it around his central and southeast region, giving demos to dealers and pilots.

Aspen Receives AML-STC for MFDs and Weather Receiver

Aspen Avionics today received from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) its Approved Model List Supplemental Type Certificate (AML-STC) for the EFD500 Multi-Function Display (MFD); the EFD1000 MFD; and the EWR50 Weather Receiver. This certification, combined with the TSO (Technical Standard Order) certification granted to the company nearly two weeks ago, authorizes installation of Aspen’s MFDs and weather receivers into over 650 airplane makes and models, representing the majority of single-engine airplanes and light twins in the general aviation fleet, and all of its most popular models.

MFDs Receive FAA TSO Certification

Aspen Avionics announced today that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granted Technical Standard Order (TSO) Authorization for the EFD500 Multi-Function Display (MFD); the EFD1000 MFD; and the EWR50 Evolution Weather Receiver. With certification and production authority in hand, Aspen will begin shipping its newest products to dealers immediately.

FAA Removes ADI Backup Requirement for VFR aircraft installing an EFD1000 PFD

The FAA has issued policy for the EFD1000 PFD that removes the requirement for an independent backup Attitude Indicator for aircraft previously certified as VFR only.  Check with your avionics dealer regarding the specific attitude backup requirements for your aircraft.

Aspen Avionics Receives European Certification of Evolution Flight Display

Aspen Avionics announced that the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has issued European Technical Standard Order (ETSO) authorizations for the EFD1000 Primary Flight Displays. This approval paves the way both for installation of the EFD1000 PFDs in European aircraft (subject to aircraft-specific installation approvals), and for expansion of Aspen’s European dealer network.

Beechcraft Baron 58-series, and some Aerostar 600-and Twin Commander 500-series added to AML

Aspen Avionics has added several more Class II airplanes, including some heavier twins, to its FAA Approved Model List Supplemental Type Certificate (AML-STC) for the EFD1000 Primary Flight Displays (PFDs).  These latest additions include the Beechcraft Baron 58-series, and a subset of the Aerostar 600-and Twin Commander 500-series twin-engine airplanes.

Aspen Avionics has added even more aircraft to its ever expanding AML-STC. This newest revision adds the following aircraft:

  • Cessna 335, 340, 340A
  • Hawker D50, D50A, D50B, D50C, D50E, D50E-5990, E50, F50,
    G50, H50, J50
  • Pilatus PC-6/B2-H4
  • Vulcanair AP68TP 300 “Spartacus”, AP68TP 600 “Viator”
  • Hawker Beechcraft 45 (YT-34), A45 (T-34A) or (B-45), D45 (T-34B)

FAA Approved EFD1000 PFD Airplane Flight Manual Supplement (AFMS) - New Revisions

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved EFD1000 PFD AFMS is available in PDF format for download. This supplement must be attached to the FAA Approved Airplane Flight Manual when the Aspen EFD1000 Electronic Flight Instrument System PRO MODEL is installed. There are two versions, one for the EFD1000 Pro PFD and one for the EFD1000 Pilot PFD.

Aspen Avionics Expands Approved Model List STC for Evolution Flight Display

Aspen Avionics has added over 200 more airplanes to its FAA Approved Model List Supplemental Type Certificate (AML-STC) for the EFD1000 Primary Flight Display (PFD). The expanded AML builds on the original AML certification granted to the company in March 2008, and authorizes installation of Aspen’s Evolution PFD into more than 600 airplane makes and models, covering the vast majority of Class I and Class II airplanes flying today.
